Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre is optimistic that his appeal to transfer the detention and trial of arrested Maute group members to Metro Manila will get a favorable response today from the Supreme Court.

“Hopefully, the Supreme Court en banc will grant my motion. Palagay ko malaki ang pag-asang ma-transfer,” Aguirre said in an interview with radio DZMM Tuesday morning.

Aguirre submitted his third appeal to Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Serreno to also free up Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro and allow soldiers there to focus on other things.

“Para maibsan ang pangamba ng lahat sana ma-transfer dito sa Metro Manila,” he said.

The justice chief said that among those expected to be transferred to Taguig are the 12 Maute members arrested in Pagadian City and 3 others nabbed at the Ilolilo Port.

“Yan po ay ibinalik na sa Cagayan de Oro to undergo inquest proceedings. Hopefully, kung matapos ang inquest, dadalin po yan sa Maynila, dito po sa Taguig,” he said.
