ILOILO CITY – Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has ordered the mandatory COVID-19 testing of all city hall employees after receiving information that some city workers had mingled with a group of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel in an Antique resort.
This follows controversy over the visit of over 20 BFP personnel to Boracay Island for a party last weekend, including one who later tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019.
Based on information Treñas received, the BFP group went to the Antique resort with Iloilo City zoning office workers before going to Boracay.
"All city hall employees will be swabbed and placed under strict quarantine," Treñas said in a text message forwarded by the Public Information Office to members of the media.
Treñas said he received photos via email but did not release these publicly yet. Those on the trip included Fire Senior Supt. Roderick Aguto, who was just relieved as BFP Region 6 director for quarantine breach over his personnel's Boracay trip.
Treñas ordered an investigation on the matter.
"The formal investigation will show if proper administrative and criminal cases will be filed against any of them," the mayor said.
BFP has also relieved all 28 personnel known to have joined the Boracay trip.
The fire officer who tested positive for COVID-19 had just arrived in Iloilo from Cebu on June 5 and took a coronavirus test the next day. She, however, broke her mandatory 14-day quarantine and joined the Boracay trip.
This has prompted the quarantine of nearly 200 people, including BFP personnel who were exposed to the woman.
Staff at the Boracay hotel where the group stayed were also placed under quarantine. The tourism department has, meanwhile, revoked the accreditation of the hotel that received the BFP group for the June 12-14 trip, when the island was reopened for Western Visayas tourists only on June 16.
Meanwhile, the extreme enhanced community quarantine being implemented at the BFP building in Iloilo City will end at midnight of June 18. - report from Joyce Clavecillas, ABS-CBN News
