MANILA - A magnitude 5.4 tremor struck Davao Occidental on Sunday morning and aftershocks are expected, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic quake struck at around 10:39 a.m. Its epicenter was located 25 kilometers northeast of Jose Abad Santos town, Phivolcs said.

At a depth of 122 kilometers, the quake was felt at Intensity 3 in General Santos and Mati cities.

Intensity 3 is felt like the passing of a light truck, and may cause dizziness in some people, Phivolcs said.

A second quake, with a magnitude of 2.4, hit northeast of Jose Abad Santos at 11:42 a.m.

Both of Sunday's tremors are not expected to cause major damage, it added.

Last Friday, Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 2.9 quake southeast of Jose Abad Santos, but it did not spawn aftershocks or cause damage.
