MANILA - An American disc jockey was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of drug possession Friday.

In a 9-page decision, Presiding Judge Tranquil Salvador Jr., of the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 63 handed down the guilty verdict against Brian Kevin Hills for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

"In Criminal Case Nos. 13-260 and 13-261 both for possession of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, the court finds the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt, with no mitigating or aggravating circumstances, and is hereby sentenced to suffer for each of the said two criminal cases the penalty of life imprisonment," the court's decision stated.

The court also ordered Hills to pay a fine of P500,000.

The court meanwhile acquitted Hills of possession of cocaine, nitrazepam, zolpidem and diazepam charges.

In 2012, anti-narcotics agents discovered 10 kilos of shabu worth P50 million and several illegal drugs from Hills's condominium unit in Makati.

Relatives of the American DJ refused to grant an interview.

Hills was brought to the national penitentiary where he will complete his sentence.

According to Assistant State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera, the guilty verdict is a victory for the government's campaign against illegal drugs. Report from Jasmine Romero, ABS-CBN News
