MANILA—A cat tied to and dragged by a truck in Quezon City was rescued hours after the gruesome video went viral, an animal welfare group said Friday.
The cat that was tied to a delivery truck and forced to run behind the vehicle as it sped along "is safe and being treated," Maria Lucia Diaz, administrator of the Facebook group Cats of Araneta, told ABS-CBN News.
The animal's temporary keepers decided to call him Van, according to the post on Cats if Araneta.
The cat sustained "lacerations on his neck since he must have been tied tightly so that he would not come loose," the post read.
Portions of Van's paws were also swollen and scathed from previous injuries.
"His injuries also show that Van was tied at the neck and forced to run behind the truck not just once but repeatedly," the group said.
It remains unclear how the cat was saved and if the truck driver was held responsible for the abuse, Diaz told ABS-CBN News.
"We still have to get [an] official statement from the security office of Araneta on how they were able to get the cat tied at the back of a delivery truck," she said.
