MANILA - (UPDATE) The Philippines reported 539 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday bringing the country’s total to 25,930.
Of the confirmed cases, 366 were deemed 'fresh' where test results were released on the patient within the last 3 days, while 173 were classified as 'late' where test results were released 4 or more days ago.
The Department of Health also reported 248 new recoveries, pushing the total number of Filipinos who recovered from the disease to 5,954.
Another 14 were added to the death toll, bringing the number of people who died due to COVID-19’s to 1,088.
The DOH however said that of the 14 deaths reported today, only 2 happened in June while the other deaths happened in the previous months.
Health Undersecretary Rosario Vergeire earlier said that what appeared to be a rise in the number of deaths this month was actually due to late reporting.
Worldwide, COVID-19 has already infected more than 7.8 million and killed over 430 thousand since the disease was first reported in Wuhan, China.
