MANILA – The Department of Budget and Management said Thursday it disbursed P54.23 billion for the pension of retired military, police and uniformed personnel, following the delayed passage of the 2019 budget.
The agency said it released P29.9 billion to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, P21.7 billion to the Philippine National Police, P1.9 billion to the Bureau of Fire Protection, and P731 million to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
Funds for the pension of retired personnel from the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority “shall be issued upon its submission of the required Special Budget Request to the DBM.”
The disbursements include the adjustment of the pension of the retired military and uniformed personnel as indexed to the base pay scale of those still in active service, the DBM said.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson, a former national police chief, welcomed the release of the funds, which will benefit some 220,000 retirees.
"No other President has shown such concern for those who served and offered their lives for country and people. All we have to do is continue breathing for as long as we can," he said on Twitter.
