MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday welcomed the release and homecoming of 2 overseas Filipino workers (OFW) granted royal pardon in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In a statement released by the Office of the President, Duterte also expressed his gratitude to Bahrain's King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa for granting pardon to Roderick Aguinaldo and Edward Benjamin Garcia.

Both Aguinaldo and Garcia have returned to the Philippines. They were serving sentence in Bahrain for the death of a foreign national and among the 16 Filipinos who were pardoned by the King last May.

"The President considers the Royal pardon a testament to the deep ties between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Bahrain and to the strong friendship with His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa," the statement said.
