DFA: 21 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad; total nearing 5,500

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday said another 21 Filipinos abroad caught the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total tally of overseas cases among Filipino nationals to 5,490.

The agency said a total of 2,369 overseas have recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 5 more Filipinos abroad died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities to 395.

To date, some 2,726 Filipino patients abroad are undergoing treatment for COVID-19, broken down as follows by region: 107 in Asia-Pacific, 481 in Europe, 1,873 in the Middle East and Africa, and 265 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 24,787 on Friday. The tally includes 1,052 fatalities and 5,454 recoveries. - With a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
