MANILA—The PNP internal affairs service has recommended the dismissal of the police officer who killed a 6-year-old boy while chasing a suspect in Caloocan City in April.
Police Corporal Rocky delos Reyes was found guilty of grave misconduct for cases filed against him after he shot and killed Gian Habal and wounded his grandmother.
These include homicide, physical injury, violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law, and violation of BP 881 or the Omnibus Election Code.
IAS inspector-general Alfegar Triambulo said Delos Reyes failed to prove that the shooting was related to the performance of his duties.
Results of the ballistic examination showed that the bullet recovered from the victim’s body came from Delos Reyes’ gun.
The bullets found at the crime scenes also matched the suspect's gun.
Triambulo said benefits given to Delos Reyes as a police officer will be forfeited. He will also be banned from working in any government office.
Meanwhile, 389 police officers were dismissed from the service for use of illegal drugs under the Duterte administration. Six more police officers are currently being investigated for illegal drug use.
