MANILA - Vice-President Leni Robredo on Tuesday encouraged Filipinos to fight for their freedom against present-day oppressors that threaten human rights, right to affordable commodities, and territorial sovereignty.

(Today, it seems that our freedom is once again threatened by different faces of danger: from widespread poverty alongside rising prices of commodities to the lack of justice.)

(From setting aside human rights to the claiming of our territories by foreign powers.)

Last week, the Duterte administration drew flak for allegedly allowing China to encroach upon and militarize islands and reefs in the South China Sea that were supposed to be under Philippine jurisdiction.

Calls for the suspension of the administration's Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) were raised to cushion the impact of rising global commodity prices and the weakening peso.

Robredo said she believes that Filipinos will not tolerate injustice and will stand up to regain the freedom earned by the Philippines 12 decades ago.

(Amid all these, Filipinos will not surrender. Instead, Filipinos will remain steadfast and fight for our freedom.)

(I trust that we have the power to alleviate our fellow countrymen from poverty, the courage to fight for our rights, and the capacity to defend our sovereignty from different threats.)
