DFA reports 40 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, total now at 5,469

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday another 40 Filipinos abroad were sick with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total tally of overseas cases among Filipino nationals to 5,469.

The agency also said 20 more overseas Filipinos recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 2,366.

Meanwhile, 8 more Filipinos abroad died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities to 390.

To date, some 2,713 Filipino patients abroad are undergoing treatment for COVID-19, broken down as follows by region: 107 in the Asia Pacific, 474 in Europe, 1,867 in the Middle East and Africa, and 265 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 24,175 on Thursday. The tally includes 1,036 fatalities and 5,165 recoveries. - With a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
