MANILA - Actor Robin Padilla has volunteered to become the face of the Department of Agriculture, its chief said Monday.
In a Facebook post, Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol said Padilla will host a TV show which will promote the profits of farming and fishing.
The show, which will also be streamed on social media, is set to begin this month.
Padilla said will develop his 5-hectare farm in North Cotabato, which will also serve as a drug rehabilitation center, Piñol added.
The actor, a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, also campaigned for administration-backed bets in the midterm polls.
Padilla also served as a mango vendor during a Metro Mango Marketing Program.
"The buying spree was so intense that by the time Agriculture's new poster boy, movie actor Robin Padilla, arrived to act as the salesman and promoter of the mangoes, there was barely enough mango for him to sell in the DA Central Office in Quezon City," Piñol said in a Facebook post.
The government launched the mango marketing program, following a surplus due to dry spell El Nino. At least 2 million kilos of mango were in danger of rotting, said Piñol.
Fresh mangoes will be sold from P20 to P50 per kilo, depending on the quality in the following places:
-Department of Agriculture Central Office, Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City;
-Bureau of Plant and Industry, Malate, Manila;
-Muntinlupa City Hall
-Paranaque City Hall
-Waltermart North Edsa, Quezon City from 9:00 am-9:00 pm
-Waltermart Makati from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
-Waltermart Pasay from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
