MANILA—The Manila city administrator on Tuesday said officials of Manila Boystown needed to dispose food items unfit for human consumption.
Mayor-elect Francisco "Isko" Moreno, however, refuted the claim, alleging his rivals were out to sabotage his administration.
Speaking to DZMM, Atty. Ericson "Jojo" Alcovendaz said Boystown officials had no choice but to discard 3 sacks of rice, 3 sacks of sugar and 10 sachets of coffee because they were already in bad condition.
" 'Yung 3 sakong bigas, unfit for human consumption kasi nabasa ng ulan," Alcovendaz said.
(The 3 sacks of rice were unfit for human consumption because it was drenched by rain.)
The sacks of sugar were also damaged by rats.
" 'Yung asukal kinain, visible sa report ng ating department head ng social welfare, kinain, binutasan na ng daga," Alcovendaz said, adding that the coffee thrown away had hardened.
(Rats bore holes through the sacks, and ate the sugar.)
The lawyer denied though that noodles, oatmeal and chocolate were discarded.
"Kaya nga ang direksyon namin ngayon, imbestigahan kung saan 'yung storage, at kung kailangang ilipat itong ating stock ng pagkain, kailangan ilipat para hindi na maulit 'yung nasira," he said.
(We're going to look into the storage area and see whether we need to move our food stock so that something like this doesn't happen again.)
Moreno on Monday conducted a surprise inspection at Manila Boystown, following a report that food were found discarded and buried beneath a complex.
According to an investigation, Moreno said food were disposed even when they hadn't expired and alleged the products were sabotaged.
Alcovendaz denied the allegations.
"With all due respect to Mayor Isko, hindi po intensiyon na gawan ng sabotahe ang paparating niyang administrasyon. Never our intention," he said.
(With all due respect to Mayor Isko, we do not intend to sabotage the incoming administration. Never our intention.)
"Tingin ko, again, with all due respect to Mayor Isko, 'yung ibang kawani roon na gustong magpalakas sa kaniya, nagsumbong ng ganito."
(I believe some people want to get on Mayor Isko's good side so this is the narrative they put out there.)
