MANILA - A former official of the Manila National Parks and Development Committee Executive was told to pay P30,000 for violating a government code of conduct.
Sandiganbayan 7th Division said former Director Carlito Fajardo must pay the fine, after he pleaded guilty to 6 counts of violation of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
Fajardo was initially accused by the Office of the Ombudsman of 6 counts of graft for the security services provided by Variance Protective and Security Agency from 2004 to 2010 amounting to P66.74 million.
Fajardo later on pleaded guilty to the lesser offense of violating the prohibited acts and transactions provision of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees after entering into a plea bargaining agreement with the prosecution.
“The prosecution manifested to the court that they are not opposing the accused’s change of plea. On the contrary, Director Leni Bajo-Padaca and Prosecutor Alexie Jane Tadeo informed the court that the Honorable Ombudsman Samuel Martires has authorized them to enter into a plea bargaining agreement with the accused,” the court said.
The decision was penned by Associate Justice Zaldy Trespeses, with the concurrence of Division Chairperson Ma. Theresa Dolores Gomez-Estoesta and Associate Justice Georgina Hidalgo.
The court also ordered the lifting of the hold departure order against Fajardo, as well as the release of his cash bond.
