MANILA -- (UPDATED) Four alleged members of the Maute group were killed after a police patrol car was reportedly ambushed by still unidentified gun men in Pantar, Lanao del Norte, on Saturday.
The fatalities were identified as Zulkifli Maute, Alan Solaiman, Salah Abbas, and Aliasgar Hadji Solaiman, who were previously arrested with the mother of the Maute terrorist leaders.
Authorities said the police were transporting the alleged Maute members to Cagayan de Oro City for their inquest proceeding when the attack happened.
The suspected terrorists were brought to hospitals in Iligan but were pronounced dead by attending physicians, according to the police.
Meanwhile, three police officers were wounded during the ambush and were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital.
They were identified as PCI William Santos, PSI Jans Vladimir Hilarion, and PO1 Danny Giovanni.
Two patrol vehicles in the convoy (body numbers 81 and 05) incurred multiple bullet holes, authorities added.
Army troops have been deployed to secure the area, while police continue to investigate the incident.
