MANILA - The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) director general is under investigation due to allegations of corruption, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Monday.
According to Andanar, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) is investigating PIA Director General Harold Clavite due to corruption allegations.
"Given the gravity of the corruption allegations and guided by the 'whiff of corruption principle' of the Duterte administration our legal office is one with the President to stamp out corruption from the bureaucracy as long as there is proof," Andanar said in a statement.
Andanar, however, added the investigation is not supposed to be made public.
The PIA is under the PCOO.
According to his profile in the PIA website, Clavite, prior to holding his current position at the PIA, worked in the UN Headquarters in New York as information management staff in the Department of Public Information (DPI) and as Executive Associate in the UN Development Operations Coordination Office (UNDOCO), the agency in-charge of UN reform.
He returned to the Philippines in 2016 to work for the Duterte administration.
Last year, Clavite asked then Communications Assistant Secretary Margaux "Mocha" Uson to apologize and take a leave of absence following the controversy over her "pepedederalismo" video.
