MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte deserves to be “president for life” if he gets to solve the traffic problem along EDSA and the flight delays at the country’s main international airport, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Monday.
“If PRRD delivers on just two promises he recently made: (1) to cut travel time from Cubao to Makati to 5 minutes within 6 months and; (2) to eliminate flight delays in NAIA within one month, for being superhuman, he deserves to be president for life,” Lacson said on Twitter.
Duterte said on Saturday that travel between Cubao to Makati can be reduced to just 5 minutes. He did not say how.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) had said that major infrastructure projects are underway. Among these are the Metro Manila Skyway Stage (MMSS3) and the NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Project, which would help decongest Metro Manila traffic.
The MMSS3 is a 17.38-kilometer elevated expressway from Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City to North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Balintawak, Quezon City.
The MMSS3 viaduct will connect the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the (NLEX), and intends to decongest main thoroughfares in the central Metro Manila area, particularly EDSA, by as many as 50,000 cars.
Meanwhile, Duterte visited the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Monday as the country’s main gateway has been plagued with flight delays and cancellations.
The president talked to airline and airport officials regarding the cancellations and delays.
He also apologized to passengers over the inconvenience caused by the flight disruptions and vowed to find a remedy within a month.
