ILOILO CITY – A man was found dead here Friday morning, his face covered with duct tape and his hands tied together in what police believe was a summary killing.
The body of the man, identified as 30-year-old Joseph Bahande, was found at Barangay Buhang, Jaro. Bahande’s body showed multiple gunshot wounds.
Scene of the crime operatives recovered empty shells likely from a .45 caliber pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun. They also found 12 sachets containing a substance resembling methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, in the victim’s pocket.
Authorities believe Bahande’s death was a summary execution related to the illegal drug trade. They will subject his body to an autopsy, and will test the substance found in his pocket to verify if it is shabu.
According to Bahande’s mother Rhodora, she last saw her son on Thursday night, when he asked permission to drive a tricycle.
It was Bahande’s nightly routine to drive a tricycle for its owner, Lino Noquera. Noquera said he got worried when Bahande failed to return his tricycle.
Jaro police said they would continue to investigate Bahande’s death and work hard to identify the suspects and establish the motive for his killing.
They will also follow up on a security guard’s account that he heard noise that sounded like firecrackers, which might have been the shots that killed Bahande. The guard also reported seeing a vehicle moving away from the area where the victim was found.
