MANILA -- The Quezon City Police Department on Sunday said it was ready to arrest several clinic officials over the alleged misuse of state health insurance funds on "ghost" dialysis treatments.
In a recent report by broadsheet Philippine Daily Inquirer, a former employee of WellMed Dialysis Center in Novaliches, Quezon City bared that the clinic made dialysis payment claims for dead patients from PhilHealth from 2016 to 2018.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday ordered authorities to arrest those behind the scheme.
Police have yet to receive a formal directive on this, but officers are ready to assist NBI with the possible arrest, should it need help, QCPD chief Brig. General Joselito Esquivel told ABS-CBN News.
WellMed and its owners have denied the accusations, saying it "would not, in any way, consent to, or participate in any 'ghost dialysis' or fraudulent scheme."
Duterte also ordered a revamp of the PhilHealth management in the wake of the scandal, which he said cost the government billions of pesos.
