MANILA- South Cotabato 1st District Rep. Pedro Acharon has been allowed by the Sandiganbayan to travel to Toronto and Ontario, Canada from June 20 to July 11, despite objection from government prosecutors.

The anti-graft court's 7th division issued a resolution following proceedings last May 25, allowing Acharon to go to Canada and stay at the Hotel Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown Toronto for a convention of Rotary International.

He will also be staying at the residence of a certain Mr. Espiridion Paraz in Ontario.

Acharon is facing one count of graft for irregular cash advances in 2006 amounting to P2.5 million when he was the mayor of General Santos City.

The cash advances were supposedly for 37 participants to the Pagana Dinner Show and Tambayayong Festival in California in 2006 but only 17 participants were able to attend the festival “thereby causing undue injury to the government.”

The court also noted that the travel bond Acharon posted for a 2014 trip “shall continue to guarantee his faithful compliance with the terms and conditions imposed” by the court.
