ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities on Friday revealed the release of a kidnapped female marine product firm employee on May 28, 2018 in Sulu province.
Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, police director covering areas in Western Mindanao, said they have communicated with the family of Laarni Bandi and verified the information about her release.
Bandi’s family also provided police authorities a recent photo of the victim as proof of life.
Bandi was abducted by fully armed men inside her boarding house in the village of Poblacion, Malangas in Zamboanga Sibugay last April 3. The abductors used a motorized pump boat as their getaway vehicle.
Beltran said Bandi is in good physical condition although she lost weight after almost 2 months in captivity.
Prior to her release, authorities had no information about the negotiations between the family and her kidnappers.
Bandi’s employer, the Cebeles Marine Product, did not give information to authorities about the development of the negotiation.
Authorities only learned about the new development two days after her release.
Beltran, however, could not say if ransom was involved in the victim's release.
Her family also gave limited information to police.
Beltran said they would give time for Bandi to rest and be with her family before convincing her to testify and file charges against her kidnappers.
