BATANGAS - A retired policeman and another cop who had gone absent without leave (AWOL) were killed in separate shootouts with authorities Batangas on Tuesday, police said.
Police identified the retired officer as Rolando Rodriguez Jr., while the AWOL policeman was identified as PO1 Francisco Bacayo of Batangas City.
A report said police were about to serve an arrest warrant on Rodriguez for cases of murder and frustrated murder pending against him when he fired shots at authorities in Barangay Buso-buso, Laurel town, around 2:45 pm.
Rodriguez, an alleged member of the gun-for-hire Alvarez group, died instantly with multiple gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, Bacayo was killed when he resisted arrest during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Bolbok, Batangas City around 10:35 pm.
Recovered from Bacayo were a caliber .45 pistol, 4.5 grams of shabu and other drug paraphernalia.
