MANILA - Malacañang has declared June 24 as a special non-working day in the capital city as it marks its 448th founding anniversary.
In Proclamation No. 731, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said the declaration is to give the people of Manila the "full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies."
Spanish navigator Miguel Lopez de Legazpi declared Manila the first municipal government in the country on June 24, 1571.
The city became the Philippine capital in 1976.
