MANILA - Incumbent and incoming senators gathered Wednesday amid a leadership row in the upper chamber.

The dinner was hosted by Sen. Manny Pacquiao at his home.

Those who attended the gathering were senators Vicente "Tito" Sotto, Loren Legarda, Gringo Honasan, Ralph Recto, Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, Joel Villanueva, Sonny Angara, Sherwin Gatchalian, Nancy Binay, Christopher "Bong" Go, Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, Francis Tolentino, Lito Lapid, Imee Marcos, and Bong Revilla.

Before the 18th Congress opens on July 22, the incoming senators were asked to submit their preferred committees, a source privy to the discussion said.

"Nagsulat lang ng committee tapos kain, uwian na. May magandang understanding na siguro 'yun at happy lahat lumabas eh," the source added.

Villanueva told reporters the meeting was to welcome the neophyte senators.

"It’s quick lang because it’s more of welcoming them and just get the opportunity to have this dinner fellowship. SP (Senate President) talked about the Senate, its tradition, and culture and the importance of independence. Also respect," he said. - with reports from Sherrie Ann Torres, ABS-CBN News
