CEBU CITY - Forty kilos of stingrays were confiscated from ambulant vendors of the Carbon Public Market on Friday morning.
Inspectors from the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) in Cebu City caught the vendor displaying the stingrays.
DVMF Head Dr. Alice Utlang said they have an existing ordinance against the illegal selling of stingrays which are protected sea creatures. Utlang said the supply is coming from Mindanao.
Stingray meat is sold to customers who usually cook this as a main ingredient for a sour soup dish.
Aside from stingrays, DVMF was also seized fish products soaked in water with detergent powder.
