MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte fired back at Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton, for criticizing him over his recent controversial rape statement.

Duterte hit the younger Clinton, who earlier said in a tweet that the President’s recent comment made before soldiers was “Not Funny. Ever.”

The tough-talking Filipino leader fired back and accused Chelsea of hypocrisy, citing her father’s affair with Monica Lewinsky.

“Kaya kayong mga Amerikano, si Chelsea, be careful because you live in a glass house,” Duterte said in a speech in Davao City.

“When President Clinton was f****** Lewinsky, what was your statement or reaction?” he asked Chelsea.

Duterte drew public ire when he said in jest he would take responsibility even for government troops who have committed rape under martial law.

Addressing the criticisms for the first time, Duterte said he was only being “sarcastic” when he made the comment.

He added, he only said those words to stress his full support for his men who are now battling local terrorists in Marawi City.

Also in his speech, Duterte brought up the case of slain transgender woman Jennifer Laude, who was killed by US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton.

“You didn’t have to kill the transgender. Sana sinipa na lang,” he said.
