MANILA - The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will file two counts of parricide against one of its cops who shot to death his wife and son in their home in Barangay Commonwealth on Sunday.
QCPD Director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar on Monday also said that the policeman, identified as PO2 Roal Sabiniano, tested positive for illegal drugs.
Sabiniano's wife and their 13-year-old son died on the spot.
The QCPD's press release said the cop arrived home from work around 1:15 pm and was allegedly met with nagging from his wife, Mary Jane, 36.
This then caused him to shoot his wife and their son, Aljon Dave, with his service firearm.
The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body, and the Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) team recovered 38 fired cartridge cases and 21 deformed bullets in the crime site.
Sabiniano later surrendered to barangay authorities and is now detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU).
Eleazar said Sabiniano joined the PNP in December 2002 and was with the QCPD until 2011 before he was re-assigned to the Southern Police Station in September 2014 and Fairview Police Station in June 2015 as follow-up operative. He was re-assigned to the Regional Public Safety Battalion last month.
"We are saddened by this turn of events which can affect the image of the PNP. However, as there are snakes in the forest, this could not have been predicted and prevented. And we assure the public that as far as the QCPD is concerned, we do not foresee such an occurrence," said the police chief.
