DFA records 157 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad; total tops 2,800

MANILA - The number of Filipinos abroad who tested positive for COVID-19 breached the 2,800-mark as 157 new coronavirus infections have been recorded, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.

Majority of the new cases reported are from Filipinos in the Middle East.

The death toll remains at 334 as no new fatalities were reported.

The number of those who recovered went up by 4 to 934, the DFA said.

To date, 1,553 Filipinos overseas are undergoing treatment for the disease, broken down as follows by region: 135 in the Asia-Pacific, 464 in Europe, 683 in the Middle East and Africa, and 271 in the Americas.

In the Philippines, the COVID-19 has so far infected 15,588 people, of whom 921 have died while 3,598 have recovered.
