MANILA -- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Sunday its agents have arrested 6 illegal immigrants in separate operations in Mindanao.
In a statement, Immigration commissioner Jaime Morente said the operations stemmed from complaints that the agency had received.
Chinese national Tony Co, also known as Alex Ubalde, was arrested in Cagayan de Oro on May 20, said Morente.
Co was allegedly engaged in gainful activity and admitted to be overstaying in the Philippines for 8 years.
American national Branden Fitzgeral Dandridge was apprehended on May 17 by immigration operatives in Davao City for being an undocumented and overstaying alien.
On May 16, immigration agents arrested Sri Lankan national Warnakula Weerasuriya Jayathilaka, also known as Anton Rowel, in Tagum City for being an undocumented and overstaying alien.
Korean national Kim Yoonsig was also arrested the same day in Tagum City. He was also an undocumented alien who is reportedly included in the BI's blacklist.
Indonesian nationals Jimbirs Da Lema and Supian Undingan, meanwhile, were caught in General Santos City last May 15.
The duo were allegedly illegal and undocumented aliens, and were earlier arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for selling fake local cigarettes.
The 6 illegal immigrants will stay in the BI's detention facility in Davao City pending deportation proceedings.
Morente urged the public to report suspected illegal immigrants to the bureau.
"We encourage the public to report to us the presence of any illegal alien in their areas, and they are assured that these reports will be acted upon," said Morente.
