MANILA -A portion of the busy Padre Faura Street was closed for about 30 minutes Friday after a utility bag left outside the Supreme Court was thought to contain a bomb.
The scare happened amid heightened public vigilance following President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration martial law in Mindanao due to firefights between government forces and the terrorist Maute group in Marawi City.
The bag was left outside the gate of the Supreme Court’s Centennial Building on the corner of Padre Faura and Taft Avenue.
The bomb squad of the Manila Police District responded and found that it only contained 3 plastic food containers and one chocolate pack. The area was declared clear a little past 4 p.m.
Amid firefights in Mindanao, the National Capital Region Police Office was placed on full alert on Wednesday.
