DATU SAUDI AMPATUAN, Maguindanao - Two children died while 4 others were injured in a blast near a market in the village of Kitango, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, according to a report from the local police.
Police said a 10-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother died in the explosion.
Their younger brother, their mother and 2 others were wounded and were rushed to the hospital.
The victims’ relatives and residents in the area said the victims were just inside their house when the blast happened.
“May apat na mortar na pumutok dito sa malapit sa palengke ng Barangay Kitango," said Kitango Chairman Mando Tambungalan.
Datu Saudi Ampatuan Police said they are still investigating the incident.
The father of the victims meanwhile blamed the military for the blast.
"Ang pamilya ko ang tinamaan ng bomba ng mga sundalo. Sundalo lang ang may 105, 81 (howitzers)," he said.
Lt. Col. Edgardo Vilchez, 6th Infantry Division spokesperson, said they are also coordinating with the police with regards to the investigation.
“We have no operating troops in the area when the incident happened as we respect the Ramadan. There is an existing rido (family feud) in the area wherein there were reported casualties. The ISIS-Inspired terrorist leaders were sighted in the place of incident and were likewise reported laying IEDs as their perimeter defense when the explosion happened," Vilchez said.
