Hundreds of relatives, colleagues and students walked more than six kilometers to bring the remains of Prof. Carmelito Marcelo to his final resting place at the Eternal Peace Memorial Park in Mabalacat City on Saturday morning.

Among those present at the funeral was his loyal friend, a stray dog named Buboy. The professor took care of Buboy for around four years at the Mabalacat City College.

Marcelo's colleague said the dog would always follow the professor everywhere on campus when he was still alive.

Buboy was able to see Marcelo before the professor was laid to rest. The professor died of a heart attack last May 18.

"Masaya, kasi kahit papano nagkaroon ng kaliwanagan kay Buboy na wala na talaga 'yung hinihintay niya," Kristina Demafelix, a colleague of the professor, said.

Demafelix brought Buboy to the professor's wake when he noticed the pup had been waiting for his human outside their faculty room.

Meanwhile, help poured in for Buboy from pet shops and animal organizations after a photo of him at Marcelo's wake went viral.

Buboy will remain on campus where he will be supported and cared for by the professor's relatives.

"Wag po kayong mag-alala. Ipagpapatuloy namin ang pagaalaga sa kaniya," said the professor's cousin, Sally David.
