A landslide hit a mountain road in Barangay Pulangbato in Valencia, Negros Oriental early Thursday.
Residents said they heard a loud rumbling noise past 1 a.m. before loose soil and rocks cascaded down the mountain and blocked the road.
Local officials said rainfall in Valencia in the past 4 days may have softened the soil and caused the landslide.
The local government unit is planning to set up a retaining wall in the area to avoid a similar incident in the future.
Valencia is the adjacent town of Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.
