Hour-long rains in Quezon City left certain areas flooded Thursday morning, rendering some streets impassable to traffic and leaving some commuters stranded.
Most vehicles ferried through the tire-deep water along a sloping section of Mother Ignacia Avenue between the corner of Timog Avenue and Scout Madriñan Street, while some cars and jeeps opted to look for other routes.
One jeep emitted smoke and stopped midway through the flood but forced itself to drive to the other side.
A number of people also walked through the flood, which reached just below their knees.
Water also rose at a low area of Panay Avenue near the corner of Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, which has long been susceptible to floods.
Sisters Angelica and Edelyn Penunia were dropped off by their tricycle meters from the Civil Service Commission Region IV office, whose entrance was in the middle of the flooded part.
They came all the way from Cavite to get Angelica's papers at the CSC after she passed the recent civil service exam.
"Maghihintay na lang kami. 15 minutes lang naman daw. Kaysa umikot pa kami sa ibang kalsada," Angelica said.
Weather agency PAGASA's earlier forecast said light to moderate rains in areas of Metro Manila could last up to two hours.
