Some 600 students of the Mindanao State University who were trapped inside the campus during a deadly clash between government forces and Maute fighters have been rescued.
All the students were converged in the safest area of the university while the firefight was ongoing.
Jeeps and vans commissioned by MSU picked up the students.
The students said they are thankful to the MSU management for providing everything they needed while they were trapped inside their dormitories.
The students will be brought straight to Iligan City before going to their respective hometowns in Mindanao.
The MSU management also appealed to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to continue working on broken power lines to restore power in the university.
The clash between the Maute group and government forces entered its third day Thursday, with at least 13 Maute fighters killed according to the military. Two police officers were killed in the operations and 13 others wounded.
