One soldier was killed and 10 others were injured in a firefight between Abu Sayyaf members and military troops in Sulu around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) said.
WESMINCOM Spokesperson Joan Petinglay said government troops received information that the bandit group was sighted with a kidnap victim in Barangay Tandu Bagua, Patikul, Sulu.
An estimated 10 ASG members confronted soldiers when they scoured the area.
The firefight lasted for 15 minutes.
Three among the 10 injured soldiers will be flown to Zamboanga City for further medical attention.
