COTABATO CITY - A 9-month-old baby has tested positive for the novel coronavirus here, the Department of Health-Soccsksargen said Saturday.
The infant, who is the 24th case of COVID-19 in the region, was infected by his elder sister, according to Cotabato City Health Officer Meyasser Patadon.
It was earlier found that the sister, an 11-year-old girl, got exposed to another COVID-19 patient, a 26-year-old male who lives in their boarding house.
The sister developed fever and cough while the baby had pneumonia last March that led to their admission to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center's COVID-19 isolation facility, Patadon said.
The city has increased the testing capacity to 40-60 tests per day, through a combination of rapid and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, Patadon said.
Meanwhile, Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco said 33 persons tested negative for the virus following cases of COVID-19 in Cotabato City and the towns of Banisilan and Mlang.
As of Saturday, the Philippines has recorded 13,777 cases of COVID-19, with 3,177 recoveries and 863 deaths.
