Fugitive 'Ardot' Parojinog falls in Taiwan 1

MANILA - Fugitive Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo "Ardot" Parojinog, who is being investigated for illegal firearms possession, was arrested in Taiwan, ending 10 months in hiding, authorities confirmed Thursday.

He is the younger brother of Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo "Aldog" Parojinog, whom President Rodrigo Duterte linked to the illegal drugs trade. The mayor was killed in a police raid in July last year.

The councilor was captured in Pingtung County, a fishing village in Taiwan, for overstaying and violating immigration laws, said Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) representative Lito Banayo.

Investigators were unsure about when Parojinog entered Taiwan, Banayo said.

Parojinog, he added, is now in the custody of Taiwan immigration authorities.

The late mayor's daughter, Ozamiz Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog, and her brother, Reynaldo Parojinog, Jr., both face charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

Earlier this month, Reynaldo Jr. was transferred to the Quezon City Jail from the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, where his sister remains.

In August 2017, the Department of Justice issued a lookout bulletin against Ricardo in connection with the series of bloody raids on the family's homes.

The DOJ said Ricardo was not at his home when police found several firearms and ammunition in his residence.
