MARAWI CITY - Residents carrying bags fled on foot and on top of packed jeepneys on Wednesday, taking advantage of a lull in fighting between government troops and the Maute terrorist group.

Members of the Maute group torched buildings here on Tuesday, sparking fighting that has left at least 3 security forces killed and 12 others wounded.

The fresh fighting also prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in Mindanao and cut short his official visit to Russia. - report from Roxanne Arevalo, ABS-CBN News.
