MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Wednesday denied that the Maute bandit group has occupied a police station in Marawi City.

“Ang headquarters ay safe, hindi naman napasok ang Marawi City Police Station. May nasunog na bahay kubo, hindi ang police station talaga,” he said in an interview on DZMM on Wednesday night.

(The headquarters is safe, the Marawi City Police Station was not taken over…as for the fire, a nipa hut caught fire, it was not the police station.)

He said while the city is not yet clear of the group’s presence, police intend to make it safe for residents.

Two policemen had been killed in clashes with the Maute group, Dela Rosa said. Their bodies have been retrieved.

Dela Rosa said he will join a command conference on Thursday to discuss the implementing guidelines of President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of martial law in Mindanao.

He said they will further specify guidelines where a curfew will be in place, and what the suspension of privilege of the writ of habeas coropus will entail.
