The Philippine National Police - Counter Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) has arrested two police personnel stationed at Wao Municipal Police Station in an entrapment operation in Lanao del Sur province.
CITF commander Police Colonel Romeo Caramat identified the suspects as Police Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Romero Fabros and Police Master Sergeant Erwin Piquero who were both caught in act of receiving the P50,000 marked money from a complainant.
Caramat said the complainant, Laut Madale, went to PNP-CITF to report the suspects who demanded P200,000 in order to downgrade the case of his son who was arrested for illegal possession of firearms last May 17, 2019.
The complainant said the police raided their house in Wao, Lanao del Sur without a search warrant and recovered one cal. 45 pistol.
Caramat said the complainant initially paid P100,000 when Ibrahim was allowed to leave prison.
After bail was posted, the suspects allegedly demanded the remaining balance which after negotiations was lowered from P100,000 to P50,000.
Initial background investigation showed that Fabros was initially assigned as intel PNCO in Morong Municipal Police Station in Rizal but was later transferred due to alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
Piquero was also transferred from the Cebu City Police due to alleged illegal drugs involvement.
Caramat said the two suspects took advantage of the imposition of martial law in Mindanao while raiding houses without search warrants to extort money.
