MANILA - The Board of Generals has submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte a shortlist of officials to replace the outgoing Chief of Staff, General Eduardo Año.
Año will retire on June 2, four months ahead of schedule to assume the post of interior and local government secretary.
The shortlist includes Lieutenant General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command; Lt. Gen. Salvador Mison, the vice chief of staff; Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado, the Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy; and Vice Admiral Narciso Vingson, the deputy chief of staff.
In a previous interview, Año said Guerrero was the most senior of all three-star generals under consideration.
As commander of the Eastmincom, Guerrero is in charge of the Davao region. Guerrero also served as commander of Task Force Davao.
