The Bangsamoro Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 on Friday confirmed that a 22-year-old man has contracted the coronavirus, the second case in Maguindanao.
The latest case was recorded 46 days after the first coronavirus patient was confirmed in the province.
Dr. Saffrullah Dipatuan of the Ministry of Health of the Bangasamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) said the patient was among 16 students who came home through government's “Balik Probinsya” program after being stranded in Cebu City.
The student, who hails from Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, is now in stable condition.
Dipatuan stressed that the students underwent strict quarantine after arriving in the province.
“They were brought directly to the Maguindanao Provincial Hospital. Hindi na sila nakauwi doon sa kani-kanilang lugar,” he said.
The students are currently quarantined at the isolation facility.
Meanwhile, the task force’s spokesperson Mohd Asnin Pendatun said “this development should not cause panic.”
“The Ministry of Health is on top of the situation and providing adequate medical attention,” he said.
“This, however, shows that our battle against COVID-19 is far from over. Therefore I’d like to once again remind the public to observe the guidelines set by the BIATF. We need everyone’s cooperation and understanding,” he added.
As of May 22, the total number of COVID19 cases in BARMM stood at 12, with 4 deaths, 7 recoveries and 1 currently admitted.
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier confirmed 163 new cases of the disease, raising the nationwide total to 13, 597, with 3,092 recoveries and 857 deaths.
