MANILA - Sen. Cynthia Villar on Wednesday said the central message of her campaign catapulted her to the top spot in the Senate race, but she continued to parry questions on a possible presidential bid in 2022.

Villar, who ran on a campaign platform of improving the lives of Filipinos through entrepreneurship, led the Senate race with 25,283,727 votes.

“I am happy and thankful for the electorate,” Villar told reporters at the sidelines of the proclamation of winning senators at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

“They liked my advocacies, yung ‘hanapbuhay,’ the messaging that came with it.”

Villar also credited President Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement for her astounding victory in the Senate race.

“Tinulungan rin tayo ni President. Popular siya eh. Nahawa tayo sa popularity niya,” she said.

By leading the Senate race, Villar has become a potential contender for the 2022 presidential race.

She, however, said she has no plans yet for the 2022 elections.

She also dismissed rumors she will vie for the Senate presidency.
