MANILA - Fifteen people died during the 2018 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election season, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
Data from the Philippine National Police showed the incidents happened since the election period began on April 14 and ended May 20.
Of the 15 victims, 8 were civilians, 3 were elected government officials, 2 were candidates, and 2 were former politicians.
Among the casualties was former La Union Congressman Eufranio Eriguel who was shot while giving a speech during a miting de avance two days before the election.
The PNP said they have identified 55 suspects in the killings, but only 3 have been arrested so far.
To date, PNP has recorded 11 validated election-related incident, most of which were shooting incidents.
