MANILA - The Sandiganbayan 5th Division on Monday has set the graft trial of former senator Jinggoy Estrada on September 4.

Estrada failed to attend the last day of pre-trial on Monday after undergoing therapy, his lawyer, Atty. Paul Mar Arias, said.

Estrada was granted medical furlough Thursday last week for extreme right shoulder pains.

Justice Rafael Lagos, 5th Division Chair, terminated the pre-trial conferences and scheduled the first hearing for the graft cases on September 4.

Upon consultation with both the prosecution and the defense, the court decided that plunder and graft trials will be held separately, every Monday and every two weeks.

The plunder trial was earlier scheduled to start on June 19.

Businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, who is accused of masterminding the P10 billion pork barrel scam, also attended the pre-trial. Napoles is now under the custody of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology after she was acquitted by the Court of Appeals in her serious illegal detention case and was released by the Correctional Institution for Women.

Other accused personalities such as former Technology and Resource Center officials were also present in the last day of pre-trial.
