LA UNION - Fire razed three rooms in Sta. Monica Elementary School in Bauang, La Union Saturday.
A resident living nearby said the incident was first seen around 3 a.m. but authorities say the incident was only reported to them at around 6 a.m.
"Pagdating namin, nagcollapse na po 'yung building. Ang ginawa na lang po namin, mapping and overhauling operation," said FO2 Jan Chris Gajete.
(The building had already collapsed when we arrived. We were only able to do mapping and overhauling operation.)
The fire was declared out by around 6:30 a.m.
The principal's office and the home economics room were totally damaged while the room used by Grade 4 and Grade 6 students were partially damaged.
Investigation on the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
The initial estimated cost of damage caused by the fire is at P1 million.
