An 11-year-old girl in Cotabato City has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), regional office of the health department said Wednesday.

The DOH SOCCSKSARGEN said in its Facebook page that the number of COVID-19 cases in the region has also risen to 23.

According to Cotabato City Health Officer Dr. Meyasser Patadon, the girl who contracted the illness was exposed to the 17th patient in the region.

The 17th patient is a 26-year-old male and a boarder of the apartment owned by the girl's father.

The young patient is already in isolation and now on stable condition.

She is the 9th confirmed COVID-19 case in Cotabato City.

COVID testing facility

The city government, meanwhile, expects faster COVID-19 testing, now that the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) has been accredited by the DOH as a licensed clinical laboratory to process test samples for the illness.

The MRMC's level 2 bio-security laboratory passed requirements to become a testing facility that can process 72 specimens in a day. Test results will also be produced within 24 hours.

Dr. Helen Yambao, CRMC's medical chief, said they will cater to swab test specimens from Regions 12 and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
