The newly formed Joint Task Group Boracay on Saturday held a simulation drill along White Beach on the popular tourist island.
Units from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard and emergency responders joined the exercise in order to enhance their capability in emergency response and security preparations.
Participants showed proper procedure on how to respond to bomb threats and committed crime at sea.
Major General Jon Aying, commander of the 3rd Infantry, said it is important to enhance security measures because Boracay is one of the most visited destinations in the world.
With the creation of a unified security force, coordination and communication will improve, according to Vice-Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado.
Rowen Aguirre, executive director of Joint Task Group Boracay, said the group fulfills the local government unit’s desire to simultaneously activate all agencies for security purposes.
A new office that will serve as the group’s headquarters was also inaugurated.
